Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP)

Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) are noises that resemble speech in recordings, but are not intended to be in the recording nor heard at the time it was made. You can usually hear EVP in static or backgound noise. Many believe that EVPs are paranormal in origin, but at least some have a more normal explanation. Sometimes people will interpret random sounds as voices in their own language, there is also the possibility of equipment artifact, or of course cases where the voices heard were a simple hoax. EVPs are usually detected in the background and can be heard better by increasing the gain. EVPs are generally brief, usually just one word or short phrase is heard.
